Sheffield-based rail depot safety specialist, Zonegreen, has secured a £27,000 donation for charity, Railway Children, which is being used to help vulnerable young people in India.
The grant comes from the Impact the Future Fund, run by Halma PLC. It was applied for by Zonegreen, in conjunction with parent company, Sentric Safety Group, a Halma company.
Halma has established the £500,000 programme to support non-profit organisations worldwide and is delivering it in partnership with the Charities Aid Foundation. Its mission is to create sustainable impact by fostering long-term partnerships between its companies and the communities in which they operate.
Rachael O’Connor, Zonegreen rail segment marketing manager, said: “Our focus on safety aligns closely with the aims of Railway Children and we have been aware of their work, both in the UK and overseas, for a number of years. When we heard about the Impact the Future Fund, we felt this synergy would help us put together a great case for a grant. Thanks to help from our colleagues at Sentric, we were delighted to learn of our success.”

The donation arrived at a crucial time for the Railway Children team in India, who were able to use it to secure new premises, after being given just hours to vacate their original base. The remaining money is helping to protect vulnerable children and young people found in rail hubs from a life on the streets.
Nitin Aggaral, Railway Children’s head of finance and operations, added: “We are grateful to the timely support from Zonegreen and Sentric, which has strengthened our operations capacity and directly contributed to the effectiveness of our programmes.”
Zonegreen is continuing to work with Railway Children and will be participating in a number of fundraising events organised by the charity this year. A team of ten has signed up to complete the Yorkshire Three Peaks in May and the Three Peaks by Rail challenge in June, with others in the planning stages.
