Rail depot safety specialists, Zonegreen, have become one of only three companies granted membership of UNIFE – the European Rail Supply Industry Association – this year.

Sebastian Baucutt, Zonegreen business unit manager, travelled to Brussels for the UNIFE general assembly this month, to accept membership on behalf of the Sheffield-based firm.

UNIFE represents leading rail suppliers across Europe, providing advocacy, coordinating research and championing the growth of sustainable solutions. Zonegreen’s affiliation reflects its status as a credible, active member of the supplier community and the work it is doing to improve the depot environment for maintenance workers.

Sebastian said: “I was honoured to represent Zonegreen at the recent UNIFE general assembly and to see our hard work recognised by European policymakers. Becoming a member of the association means we can contribute to discussions on rail safety and depot protection, collaborate with fellow suppliers across the continent and remain aligned with evolving technical and regulatory standards.”

This milestone forms part of Zonegreen’s continued growth across the UK and Europe and recognises its commitment to developing safe and efficient rail maintenance facilities. The company is best known for its Zonegreen Depot Personnel Protection System (DPPS), which automates safety procedures to reduce the margin for human error.

UNIFE was formed in 1991, through the merger of three European rail associations, to anticipate the creation of the single market. It works closely with EU institutions, the European Union Agency for Railways and standardisation bodies, acting as a trusted partner in shaping the future of the continent’s rail systems.
